Approaching the chutes.
Chris, Sierra and Lance lead the way up to the top of
the glacier and the prominent couloirs leading to the
summit ridge. |

Y-Couloir. From
this angle, the Y-Couloir looks perfectly climbable.
Compare the perceived angle of the couloir in this
photo with that in
another photo taken from neighboring North Peak
six weeks earlier. |

View of Matterhorn Peak.
Near the top of the glacier, nice views open up to the
north, including this view of Whorl Mountain, the
Sawtooth Ridge, and Matterhorn Peak. |

Monster bergschrund.
As we turned the corner around the Y-Couloir, we spied
the monster bergschrund guarding the entrance to the
couloir (seen here right above Lance's head). |

"Light as a feather".
A small snowbridge bridged the crevasse at far right
of the couloir. Here I am crossing over the 'schrund
and pretending that I don't weigh 190 pounds. |

Up the couloir.
Once past the bergschrund, the climbing up the chute
was thrilling but not scary. Using ice axe self
belays, we cruised up it pretty quickly. |
