Looking
Back. Our
view back along the ridge towards North Peak.
This gives you an idea of the sheer dropoff down to
the glacier below. Although the other side of
the ridge has a further drop, it isn't quite as
dramatic as this side. |

Sam at the First Rappel. At the top of
the second tower, we spied Tom and Michelle down in
the notch. Tom had downclimbed this part, so we
decided to try our luck. Here, Sam climbs below
the rap slings at the top of the second tower.
We got about 10-15 feet down and then changed our
minds. Out came the harnesses, on went the rock
shoes. Sam actually dropped his belay device
here, but through some act of providence managed to
fish it out of the rocks below. |

Bob on
First Rappel.
With another rope on his back for the second rap, Bob
leans over the precipice and heads down.

Me on
the Second Rappel.
Bob set up the rope for the second rappel and, after
giving me a few pointers that included scaring the
shit out of me when he told me I was tied into my
harness incorrectly (I wasn't), he sent me on my way
into the abyss.

Sam on
the Second Rappel.
Sam heads down after me while Michael waits up top.

Holy
Crap! I
forgot how steep the drop was at the bottom of this
section until I saw this photo. Sam unties from
the rope at the bottom of the second rappel.

Tom
above the Notch.
Looking across, we saw Tom and Michelle heading up
towards the summit. Here, Tom engages in some
free soloing of the more spicy variety by sticking
close to the edge of the ridge. |

Second Tower. Looking back at the second
tower. Joel is on the second rappel, while Bob
is waiting above at the rap station. |
