Still Skiing....
I'm skiing the last of the continuous snow way below Pyramid Peak
(seen behind me). |

Stop in For a Drink? Chris trying to get
tubed by a waterfall on the east face of Pyramid Peak. |

End of the Line. After such a great run,
we almost forgot the hellacious journey in front of us
to get back to our overnight gear at Ropi Lake.
Here, Chris takes off his board and prepares to drop
in to the Slabs of Insanity II. |

Bring on the New Telemark Norm. Smooth
slippery granite slabs, a fair amount of exposure and
telemark duckbills -- a deadly combination. |

"I'd Kill for a Pack of GU Right Now."
Chris descending the route to camp. This photo
shows pretty well what we had to cover -- huge blocks
of granite, smooth slabs, rotten late season snow, fast
running streams, and some monster shrubs thrown in for
good measure. It was hot in the late afternoon
sun, and we bonked pretty hard
coming down this pitch. By the time I got down
to Toem Lake, I was just doing a mindless thorazine
shuffle.

Type 3
Fun. I'm
actually starting to get used to this shit. |

Almost
Home. Chris
at the top of Horsetail Falls. We rested awhile
at Ropi Lake, gaining our strength for the downclimb
to the car. The day turned out beautiful as the
winds picked up a bit, cooling off the temps and
blowing the haze out. |

Horsetail Falls. The top of the falls,
just before it plunges over the cliff and gets really
serious.
We made it back to the
car at around 7pm -- a 12 hour mostly non-stop day.
Despite the laboriousness of the trek, it was worth it
to be out deep in the backcountry and even get in some
sweet turns to cap off the season.
