Backcountry ski and snowboard gear, camping

June 2001

Morning shot of the Minarets and Mt. Ritter from the road to Agnew Meadows.

After a not very restful night at the Shilo Inn, we woke up early to beat the Devil's Postpile Road closure and hit the trail.  We started from Agnew Meadows and quickly entered the Ansel Adams Wilderness.

Starting from Agnew Meadows, we took the Shadow Lake trail, descending first to scenic Olaine Lake.  Here, Liz and I cross the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River to begin the climb up to Shadow Lake.

EB pauses on the climb up to Shadow Lake.

A beautiful series of waterfalls emerge from the outlet of Shadow Lake, which sits above the narrow gap in the middle of the photo.  Volcanic Ridge rises in the background.

Griffin, EB and I take a rest at the waterfall and enjoy the mist.

Beautiful Shadow Lake and our first up close view of Ritter and Banner, and our climbing route.
