Backcountry ski and snowboard gear, camping

September 2001

Cecile Lake and the Silver Divide.  On the way down, we were treated to magnificent views to the southeast, like this one of Cecile Lake and the peaks of the Silver Divide and beyond.

Back at Camp.  The trip down took us about three hours or so and it was a tough descent with a lot of boulder & talus hopping.  We made it down, rehydrated, and promptly began firing up the campstove for dinner.

Moonrise.  As we were enjoying our dinner, a nearly full moon rose slowly to the southeast over Volcanic Ridge.

Minarets and Ediza Lake.  The next day was gorgeous, but very warm.  But for the lack of snow, you would never have guessed that it was one day shy of October.  San Francisco recorded 93 degrees that day, and it was 84 on the Bay Bridge when we crossed at 6:30pm.  Our hike out was therefore quite hot.  On the way back down, I took this pretty photo of the Minarets reflecting in Ediza Lake.

Mt. Ritter from Ediza Lake.  We paused at the outlet of Ediza lake for one last look back up at Mt. Ritter and its SE glacier.
