The USS Otherprise.
Once again, the
Otherprise makes an entrance at Bunny
Flat. The ultimate staging vehicle for an
assault on Mt. Shasta. (Photo G. Golamco) |

Bunny Flat.
A happy group poses at Bunny Flat under sunny skies.
Notice everyone wearing shorts and T-shirts. A
mere 12 hours later, we would be wearing multiple
layers of down, polypro and gore-tex in the middle of
a howling blizzard. |

Up to Horse Camp. The first part of the
climb takes you up gradually through trees, with views
towards Shastina. |

Hiking up.
Kevin leads the crew up the trail through the suncups.
The suncupped snow was slushy and soft on the way up.
The next morning, the cups were bulletproof ice,
making for interesting ski conditions. Above the
snowline, the suncups gave way to nice, smooth corn. |

Olberman's Causeway.
Just above the Sierra Club cabin at Horse Camp is
Olberman's Causeway, a stone walkway leading up the
mountain. At this time of year, the causeway is
completely buried in snow. Here, a big group of
teleskiers skins up the causeway. |

Climbing into the gulch.
Skiers skin up into Avalanche Gulch, bounded on the
left by Casaval Ridge. |

Trinity Alps.
Griffin climbs up above Horse Camp, with the beautiful
(and still quite snowy) Trinity Alps in the distance. |
