Matterhorn Peak.  Whorl's more famous neighbor as seen from the summit.  The Sawtooth Ridge continues on the left.

Looking South.  A surprisingly great view southward from this mere 12,000' peak.  The eye takes in virtually all of the major summits of the Yosemite High Country.  In this shot alone Mt. Dana, North Peak, Conness, Banner, Ritter, Rodgers, Lyell and Maclure are clearly visible.

On the last page of this feature is an annotated photo panorama from Whorl's summit, showing all of these named peaks.

Redemption!  I was disappointed after having been turned back in 2001.  But like they say, the mountain isn't going anywhere and will always be around for another day.

Summit Register.  I couldn't find any other entries in the summit register from 2003, so perhaps I was the first one up there this year?  I did find some cool entries in the register dating back to the 70s.  I also found R.J. Secor's entry from September 2000.

Back Down the Sidewalk.  Another shot of the "sidewalk" leading to the summit rocks.  Its a perfect 3 foot wide sandy path that looks like it was graded and placed there for guys like me who wouldn't be able to get to the top any other way.

Looking out from the Chockstone Cave.  I took this photo from inside the cave underneath the chockstone.  You can see the nice sandy ledge below which leads into the middle chute.

Back at the Pass.  I hauled ass back down the mountain and made it back to camp by around 9am.  Dave had already packed up the tent and within 20 minutes, we were off towards Twin Peaks Pass again.  Here I am feeling triumphant, with the sharp spire of Whorl Mountain behind me.

Tarn at Horse Creek Pass.  This is where we camped at the pass.  Notice the 30 foot high snowbank over the north end of the tarn.  Hard to believe this is already August with that much snow still hanging around.
