Other Side of the Valley.
After a quick lunch break back at basecamp, Nate, Dave
and I headed over to the other side of the Virginia
Lakes to skin up to the chutes dropping down from the
nice headwall between Black Mtn. and South Peak.
We climbed almost to the
top of the chute (photo, below left), but got a bit
spooked by afternoon wet snow conditions.
Pinwheel rollers started coming down, which we took as
a sign to get the hell out of there. The
snow was heavy at the top (see photo of Nate, below),
but turned into luscious corn down low.

South Peak. After
we returned to camp, Mr. Powder and E put on a fine
telemark display by dropping the pretty chutes on the
north face of South Peak, right above our campsite. |

Gary and
Dunderdome.
Meanwhile, Sierra Fred and some other folks, including
Gary, were ripping up some fine snow on the south side
of the Virginia Lakes area (photo: Fred

Chillin'
at Basecamp.
Everyone hooked up at the end of the day back at the
cars. We simply took the place over. The
fisherman never knew what hit 'em. To top it all
off, at around 6:45, Gimpy and bcrider rolled in, put
their boots on, grabbed their dogs, and headed up for
a nighttime run. It ruled. |
